About Flare
Flare is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN: 39-4907138) led by photographers Amelia DiGiano, Alec Thompson, and Talon Belski. The concept was borne from a collective anxiety regarding the ecological health of the planet, a shared love for InDesign, and the belief in photography as a form of climate activism, education and resilience.
The ongoing nature of this publication mirrors the ongoing nature of the climate crisis. Our recurring calls for submissions are a reminder to artists, policymakers, and other climate actors that there remains much work to be done. We seek work that spans the spectrum of climate hope (or lack thereof), to create an ongoing, realistic and artistic depiction of both the climate crisis and emerging solutions.
The first edition of Flare was released April 17 2026, in-print (limited editions) and online. We are accepting submissions for the Autumn Edition until July 31.
At this time, the journal is entirely self-funded. This is why we are asking for a $5-10 donation for each submission. We understand that submission fees are often a barrier for emerging photographers and we encourage anyone to submit, even those unable to make a donation. All submissions will be considered regardless of associated contributions.
